Lit & Luz Festival CDMX 2026!
Entre el 16 y el 21 de marzo, MAKE Lit y colaboradores presentarán la decimosegunda edición del festival Lit & Luz: “Repair/Reparar” con un programa gratuito de literatura y arte en la Ciudad de México.
Acompaña al grupo de colaboración 2025-2026 de México y Estados Unidos en una semana de lecturas de poesía, pláticas con artistas, conversaciones con autores y performances en vivo, que culminará con el estreno del Live Magazine Show en el Museo Universitario del Chopo el sábado 21 de marzo a las 7 pm.
From March 17 to 21, MAKE Lit and partners present the 12th annual Lit & Luz festival, “Repair/ Reparar” with free literature and arts programming in Mexico City.
Join members of the 2025-2026 Collaboration Cohort from Mexico and the United States for five days of poetry readings, artist talks, author conversations, and live performances culminating in the Mexico City debut of the Live Magazine Show at Museo Universitario del Chopo on Saturday March 21 at 7 p.m.
Repair/Reparar
El festival de este año, bajo el lema de "Repair/Reparar", busca indagar cómo escritores, poetas y artistas de Chicago y México analizan críticamente la realidad que los rodea y cómo puede ser reparada. A través de la creación artística y la colaboración, Lit & Luz explorará y promoverá las múltiples maneras en que los actos creativos pueden impactar y ofrecer nuevas perspectivas sobre lo que necesitamos para afrontar y reimaginar nuestra realidad compartida.
This year’s festival—under the theme of “Repair/Reparar”—asks writers, poets, and artists from Chicago and Mexico to look critically at their surrounding realities in need of repair. Through artistic creation and collaboration, Lit & Luz will explore and promote the many ways creative acts impact and offer new perspectives on what it takes to face and reimagine our shared realities.

¡No te pierdas el Live Magazine Show, la celebración emblemática de Lit & Luz!
Cada año, Lit & Luz apoya la creación de nuevas obras colaborativas entre escritores, artistas visuales, artistas performáticos y músicos de Chicago y de México. Las piezas se presentarán en español e incluirán narración oral, música, poesía, animación e improvisación, explorando la relación entre lenguas, formas artísticas y problemáticas sociales, así como el encuentro cultural entre Estados Unidos y México, a través del tema “Repair/Reparar”. El programa de este año presenta el estreno en la Ciudad de México de cuatro performances en vivo del grupo de colaboración 2025-2026: Ana Hernández, Diana Garza Islas, Gabriela Damián Miravete, Magali Lara, Margarita Saona, Maria Gaspar, Stefania Gomez & TAITAI +/-/x/÷Tina. Con música de Jenny Beaujean.
El Live Magazine Show se presenta en colaboración con el Museo Universitario del Chopo y el Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA), con el apoyo de The Poetry Foundation y de otros patrocinadores.
Experience the Live Magazine Show, Lit & Luz’s signature celebration. Each year, Lit & Luz supports the creation of new collaborative artworks between writers, visual artists, and musicians from Chicago and Mexico. The pieces will be presented in Spanish and include storytelling, music, poetry, animation, and extemporaneous performances that explore the relationship between languages, art forms, social issues, and cultures of the United States and Mexico through the theme “Repair/Reparar". This year’s program debuts four live performances from the 2025-2026 Collaboration Cohort: Ana Hernández, Diana Garza Islas, Gabriela Damián Miravete, Magali Lara, Margarita Saona, Maria Gaspar, Stefania Gomez & TAITAI +/-/x/÷Tina. with music by Jenny Beaujean.

“Monster, revisited” / “Revisitar al monstruo”
No es posible reparar un daño, sin enfrentarse al daño en sí. En esta conversación, Magali Lara y Margarita Saona examinan el monstruo que llevamos dentro a partir de la experiencia del trasplante de órganos y de la pérdida de la identidad de la madre acosada por el Alzheimer. La palabra, la pintura y la animación ofrecen, en este intercambio de experiencias vitales y materialidad artística, un acercamiento a horrores íntimos.
It is not possible to repair damage without confronting the damage. In this conversation, Magali Lara and Margarita Saona examine the monster we all carry inside from the perspective of organ transplantation and the loss of identity of a mother haunted by Alzheimer. Word, painting, and animation offer, in this exchange of vital experiences and artistic materiality, an approach to our intimate horrors.
"What broken bones will we mend together now?” / “¿Qué huesos rotos vamos a reparar juntos ahora?"
En “¿Qué huesos rotos vamos a reparar juntos ahora?” La escritora Gabriela Damián y la artista María Gaspar exploran conceptos como la sanación colectiva, la ira, la reparación y la liberación. En su performance se refleja lo que significa estar juntos en tiempos de crisis política y cómo podemos estar presentes para los demás frente al entumecimiento producido por una realidad abrumadora. Usando fragmentos seleccionados de canciones de protesta y libertad y recopilaciones de encabezados noticiosos obtenidos en la zona fronteriza, invitan a que la audiencia participe en la creación de un himno de esperanza colectivo que ayude a restablecer la fragmentada conexión con el hogar que nos sustenta.
In "What broken bones will we mend together now?", writer Gabriela Damián and artist Maria Gaspar explore collective healing, rage, repair, and release. Their performance reflects on what it means to be together in times of political crisis and how we can stay present for each other amidst the numbness produced by an overwhelming reality. Using selected text from freedom songs, protest music, and news headlines gathered by the artists across the border, audience members will help create a collective anthem of hope to reestablish the shattered connection to home that sustains us.
“Ra Lidxi Niza” / “Donde habita el maíz” / “Where Corn Lives”
En esta instalación poética, Ana y Stefania levantan una troje, construcción hecha con troncos de madera y utilizada para almacenar y proteger maíz, semillas y cosechas en Mesoamérica. Las artistas habitan la instalación como una forma de resistencia que confronta y enfatiza la importancia de la preservación de las lenguas originarias, la soberanía alimentaria y la defensa del territorio. A partir de esta acción, así como de sonidos y textos que aluden tanto a México como a Chicago, ambas nos invitan a reflexionar sobre qué significa habitar un lugar y un país —e incluso la tierra misma—, al tiempo que subrayan la importancia de regresar a nuestros orígenes.
In this poetic installation, Ana and Stefania erect a troje, a structure made of wooden logs used to store and protect corn, seeds, and crops in Mesoamerica. The artists inhabit the installation as a form of resistance that confronts and emphasizes the importance of preserving indigenous languages, food sovereignty, and the defense of territory. Through this action, as well as sounds and texts that allude to both Mexico and Chicago, the two artists invite us to reflect on what it means to inhabit a place and a country—and the earth itself—while underscoring the importance of returning to our origins.
“ORROR RATIO”
En esta pieza colaborativa de poesía performática, TAITAI +/-/x/÷Tina y Diana Garza Islas exploran el concepto de reparación en dos sentidos: como partenogénesis y como un proceso de kintsugi.
Considerando el reparar como re-parear, un hacer de una misma un par de sí misma, las artistas reflexionan sobre cómo, en el proceso de reparar lo roto, el resultado nunca será un objeto restaurado, sino uno nuevo, re-par(e)ado desde pero también hacia distintos elementos.
Al introducir objetos que brillan y se expanden en el escenario, las artistas crean seres híbridos y caóticos. Se reparan con oro, concepto que a veces se aparea con el orror, y su imperfecta proporción de belleza.
In this collaborative piece of performance poetry, TAITAI +/-/x/÷Tina and Diana Garza Islas explore the theme of repair in two ways: as a Parthenogenesis and a Kintsugi process.
Considering re-pair as making one-self a pair of it-self, the artists reflect on how, in the process of repairing what is broken, the result will never be a restored object, but a new one, re-paired from but also to various items.
By introducing objects that glitter and roll on stage, the performers create hybrid and chaotic beings. They re-pair themselves with gold —oro— which sometimes is paired with orror too, and its un-perfect ratio of beauty.
