Paula Abramo (Mexico City, 1980) is a translator of Portuguese and author of the collection of poetry Fiat Lux (FETA, 2012). Abramo won the College of Mexico’s Joaquin Xirau Icaza Poetry Prize in 2013. She was a poetry fellow for the Young Creators program from Mexico’s National Fund for Culture and Arts on two occasions.

Aguillón-Mata is a Mexican writer. He publishes essays and fiction in several Mexican and American magazines, both printed and virtual, some of which are Armas y Letras, Avispero, Letras Libres, and MAKE Magazine; he has also published the books of fiction Quién escribe (Paisajista, 2004) and Tratado (De una zona privada, 2013).
Alejandro Albarrán (Mexico City 1985) is a Mexican poet, musician and conceptual artist. He has published Ruido (Mexico City: Bonobos, 2012) and Tengo un Pulmón Que no es el Cielo (FETA, La Ceibita, 2014). He works with textual, visual and sound poetry.

Randall Albers, Professor and Chair Emeritus at Columbia College Chicago, chaired the Fiction Writing Department, and founded the long-running Story Week Festival of Writers. His work has appeared in Prairie Schooner, Chicago Review, TriQuarterly, Writers Digest, Writing in Education, Brevity, F Magazine, and Briefly Knocked Unconscious by a Low-Flying Duck, among others. He teaches in Rome for Columbia College.

Benjamín Anaya González is a popular guitarist and composer of contemporary fusion. He is also a cultural promoter, editor, writer, photographer, researcher, and teacher at the Mexican Dance Academy of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA).

CARLOS ARANGO
Carlos Arango was a participant and survivor of the Mexican Student Movement of 1968, which culminated in the October 2nd massacre in which the army killed hundreds of people. He immigrated to the United States as a product of repression. Arrango did political and cultural education work with the Mexican community in Los Angeles, and later in Chicago, where he directed Casa Aztlán. He is currently the founder and collaborator of the Movimiento Mexicano.

Jim Becker is a Chicago-based musician, producer, and sound engineer who has played around town and around the world since the 1980s. He has recorded and collaborated with a long list of rock, folk, experimental, and old-time bands. Jim tours the US and Europe extensively, most recently with Califone and Iron and Wine.

LIBIA BIANIBI
Libia Bianibi (b. Juchitán, Oaxaca) is a cultural worker based in Chicago, doing operations for nonprofits through an equity lens. As an independent researcher, she analyzes how cultural policy and museological practices objectify indigenous peoples, while strategizing how to implement progressive values in the internal practices of arts organizations. She holds a BA in Art History from Universidad Iberoamericana and a MA in Arts Administration & Policy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Susannah Bielak’s work has been widely exhibited and collected, including by the International Print Center, Luis Adelantado Mexico, San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, among many. Awards include the Highpoint Jerome Fellowship and the Jerome Visual Arts Fellowship. She is the Associate Director of Engagement and Curator of Public Practice at the Block Museum at Northwestern.

Adam Burke has opened for Marc Maron, Hannibal Burress, Kumail Nanjiani, John Oliver, Tracy Morgan, Aziz Ansari, and many more. Burke released his debut album Universal Squirrel Theory on A Special Thing Records in 2012. He was voted Best Standup in Chicago by readers of the Chicago Reader in 2014.
Miguel Calderón creates works from a mashup of vernacular references, employing a variety of medium, including video, photography, sculpture and painting. He is best known for his work titled "Aggressively Mediocre/Mentally Challenged/Fantasy Island (circle one)" which was part of a 1998 exhibit and was bought by Wes Anderson and shown in the film The Royal Tenenbaums. Solo exhibitions include: Miguel Calderon: Color Bleed, Rochester Art Center, Rochester, NY (2012) and Miguel Calderón, solo project, Casa América, Madrid, Spain (2010).
With extensive experience in Mexico and internationally, Candiani is interested in the complex intersection between language systems, sound, and logics of technology. There is some nostalgia for the obsolete in her work, which seeks to make explicit both the discursive content of artifacts, and projections for the future envisioned in the past.
Gerardo Cárdenas is a writer and journalist. He won the Premio Interamericano Carlos Montemayor 2013 and is the author of En el país del silencio (Ediciones Oblicuas, 2015).

The work of Edgar Cobián (b. 1978, Guadalajara, Mexico) covers different formats and media such as drawing, sculpture, and sound from a critical perspective. As a musician he performs in Cráneo Verde Humeante and Peor Aún. He is a member of the Organizing Committee of the Doña Pancha Fest, an underground festival.

KRISTIANA RAE COLÓN
Kristiana Rae Colón is a poet, playwright, actor, educator, Cave Canem Fellow, creator of #BlackSexMatters and co-director of the #LetUsBreathe Collective. She was awarded 2017 Best Black Playwright by The Black Mall. Her play Tilikum opened in June 2018 with Sideshow Theater. She is a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists and one half of the brother/sister hip-hop duo April Fools. Kristiana’s writing, producing, and organizing work to radically reimagine power structures, our complicity in them, and visions for liberation.

Don De Grazia is the author of the critically acclaimed novel, American Skin (Scribner/Jonathan Cape). His work has appeared in The Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Reader, Newcity, The Outlaw Bible of American Literature, The Italian American Reader, Rumpus, The Great Lakes Review and other publications. He is also the co-founder/co-host of Come Home Chicago, a live event series dedicated to celebrating the Chicago storytelling tradition in all its forms.
JUAN DE LA MORA
Juan De La Mora was born and raised on the south side of Chicago to Mexican immigrants. From the ages of 8 to 21, he worked every summer and winter break on semi-trailer mechanics with his Father. In 1997, he began studying architecture in Chicago at IIT, then transferred in 2000 to ETSAM in Madrid, Spain. He dropped out of school in 2005 to pursue an artist residency in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal, for 2 years. He returned to IIT in 2007 and, upon finishing his degree, began working at Studio Gang Architects, where he is currently the Model Shop Director.
Juan De La Mora, hijo de inmigrantes mexicanos, nació y creció en el sur de Chicago. Desde los 8 hasta los 21 años, trabajó cada verano e invierno en mecánica de semirremolques con su padre. En 1997, comenzó a estudiar arquitectura en el IIT en Chicago y, en el 2000, se trasladó a la ETSAM en Madrid, España. Dejó la escuela en 2005 para realizar una residencia artística en Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal, durante 2 años. Regresó al IIT en 2007 y, al finalizar sus estudios, comenzó a trabajar en Studio Gang Architects, donde actualmente es el director de modelismo.

Mónica de la Torre is the author of six books of poetry, including The Happy End/All Welcome (Ugly Duckling Presse) and Feliz año nuevo, a volume of selected poetry published in Spain (Luces de Gálibo). Born and raised in Mexico City, she writes in, and translates into, Spanish and English, including the release of the only book written by cult, avant-garde Chilean poet Omar Cáceres, Defense of the Idol (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2018). De la Torre teaches in the Literary Arts program at Brown University.

DOS SANTOS
Dos Santos’s elasticity & consistency in live performance has earned them an enthusiastic & highly diverse audience in the too-often segregated Chicago music scene. Dos Santos have been steadily tipping forward into something more future-minded & universal, something that transcends the nationalism many of us are desperately trying to depart from, but don’t have the vocabulary to fully escape. Logos, their most recent album Logos (International Anthem), is a bold & vulnerable push into this transcendence.
La elasticidad y consistencia de Dos Santos en su interpretación en vivo, les ha ganado una audiencia entusiasta y muy diversa en la escena musical de Chicago a menudo segregada. Álvaro Enrigue (born 1969) is the award winning author of four novels and two books of short stories. In 1996, Enrigue was awarded the prestigious Joaquín Mortiz Prize for his first novel, La muerte de un instalador (Death of an Installation Artist). In 2012 it was selected as one of the key novels of the Mexican 20th century, and anthologized by Mexico's largest publishing house, Fondo de Cultura Económica. He currently teaches at Princeton University.
Luis Felipe Fabre is a poet and critic based in Mexico City. He has published a volume of essays and poetry collections. Recent books of poetry include Poemas de terror y de misterio (2013) and Sor Juana and Other Monsters (2015). The latter was translated by John Pluecker and has been published by Ugly Duckling Presse.

Carla Faesler (Mexico City, 1967) is the author of Formol (Tusquets, 2014), which was named the best book published in 2014 by La Tempestad magazine in its annual Presente de las Artes en México issue. In 2002 she won the Gilberto Owen National Prize for Literature.

Kamilah Foreman is the Senior Editor at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. and the Fiction Editor for MAKE Magazine. She holds an MA in the Humanities from the University of Chicago.
Dianna Frid is an artist working at the intersection of text and textile. Her sculptures, installations, artists’ books and mixed-media works have been shown nationally and internationally. Born in Mexico City, Frid currently lives in Chicago. She is an Associate Professor in the Art Department at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Juan Gaitán is the Director of the Tamayo Museum in Mexico City. He has worked on projects on historical modernism and the cultural uses of the public sphere. He was curator of the Eighth Berlin Biennial (2012–14) and worked at the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Edgar Garcia is the Neubauer Family Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Chicago. Winner of the 2018 Fence Books Modern Poets Series Award, his collection of poems and anthropological essays—titled Skins of Columbus—will be published by Fence Books in March, 2019. His book of literary scholarship and critical theory—Signs of the Americas—will be published by the University of Chicago Press in Autumn of 2019.

HÉCTOR GARCÍA CHÁVEZ
Dr. Héctor García Chávez holds a PhD from the University of Chicago. He is a Professor of Literature and Cultural Studies, Mexican Cinema and Literature, and Gender Studies and Queer Theory at Loyola University where he also serves as director of the Latin American Interdisciplinary Studies Program.

Reginald Gibbons is the author of ten books of poems, a novel, and short fiction; translator of Mexican poets, as well as Spanish poets Luis Cernuda and Jorge Guillen; and co-translator of Sophocles' Antigone, Euripides' Bakkhai, and Russian poets. He teaches at Northwestern University and is at work on a novel.

Paul Giallorenzo is a producer, organizer, co-founder, and director of the art gallery/music venue Elastic, producing hundreds of creative music concerts in Chicago since 2001. Danny Giles combines sculpture, performance, research, and pedagogy to give form to political and metaphysical positions. Giles received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2011) and his MFA from Northwestern (2013). Giles has been in residence at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2013.

Jimena González (b. 2000, Mexico City) is a Mexican writer. She studies Hispanic Literature at UNAM and has participated in various spoken-word poetry events around Mexico City, in venues such as the Museo Universitario del Chopo, Casa del Lago UNAM, the Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art, and FIL Zócalo 2017, amongst others. González is a member of the writing community Proyecto POM, where she is currently the director of Poetry Slams for the Mexico City league, SLAMIN. In 2017 she published her first collection of poems/fanzine, “Nombrar la Sangre,” with Editorial Versonautas. PlayGround website calls her the youngest poet in Mexico.

Maricela Guerrero (Mexico City, 1977) has published Kilimanjaro (Mano Santa, 2011) and Peceras (Filodecaballos, 2013). Her work has been anthologized in Divino tesoro (Casa Vecina, 2008), Cuatro poetas recientes de México (Black & Vermelho, 2011), and others. In 1998 and 2000 she won the first prize in the "After the Speech" Contest (within the Cátedra Extraordinaria Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz). In 2008 and 2010 she obtained the scholarship for Young Creators of the Fonca.

Amanda Gutiérrez’s (Mexico City, 1978) artworks often take the form of a dialogue, seeking to consider and, ultimately, to record the experience and memory of immigrants in the process of converting a city or foreign nation into their home. She is currently a PhD candidate in contemporary art studies at the University of Girona.

Samantha Hill investigates how memory, location and history intersect within society by collecting oral narratives & personal artifacts. Hill’s current endeavor, the Kinship Project, is an archive of over 150 years of African American family photography, objects and ephemera which she utilizes as the foundation for her installation projects.

Ida y Vuelta’s presentations come from a long tradition of Mexican folk music called Son Jarocho. The genre is a fusion of African, Spanish and Indigenous music and poetry. Ida y Vuelta’s instrumentation is native to the Veracruz region and includes jaranas (8 string small guitars), requinto (lead 4 string guitar), leona (acoustic bass), zapateado (percussive foot tapping) and they also incorporate the cajón (wood peruvian box) and cajita (small peruvian box) for reinforcements.

Adam Levin is the author of the novel The Instructions and the story collection Hot Pink, both published by McSweeney’s. A National Endowment for the Arts fellow, a National Jewish Book Award Finalist, and winner of the 2011 New York Public Library Young Lions Fiction Award, Levin teaches at the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

Valerie Mejer Caso, born in Mexico City, is a poet and painter. For her book De Elefante a Elefante, she was awarded the Gerardo Diego International Award for Literary Research by the Spanish Government. She is the author of six books of poetry and five translations. Forthcoming works include an anthology of her poems, Rain of the Future (Action Books, 2013), and a long poem, This Blue Novel (2014).
Jorge Méndez Blake explores the possible connections between literature, visual arts and architecture, fusing different historic and geographical elements, provoking new lectures on the paper of language and history. He has focused his work in the research of the idea of the library, understood as a fragile and contradictory structure.

Amalia Pica’s wide-ranging practice includes sculpture, photography, drawing, film, installation, and performance. The works often invite the viewer to reflect on the construction, effectiveness, and the performative nature of thought and speech. Pica studied sculpture at ENBAPP in Buenos Aires and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten.

Julie Rodrigues Widholm is currently the director of the DePaul Art Museum. She previously worked at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago as a curator. Daniel Saldaña París is an essayist, poet and novelist born in Mexico City. He is the author of Among Strange Victims, translated from the Spanish by Christina MacSweeney and published in the US by Coffee House Press. He lives in Montreal.

Erika L. Sánchez is the daughter of Mexican immigrants. A poet, novelist, and essayist living in Chicago, her debut poetry collection, Lessons on Expulsion was published by Graywolf in July 2017. Her debut young adult novel, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, was released this month by Knopf Books for Young Readers. She was recently named a 2017–2019 Princeton Arts Fellow.

Victoria Saramago is an Assistant Professor in Brazilian Literature at UChicago. She hold a Ph.D. in Iberian and Latin American Cultures from Stanford University. She works in the intersection of ecocriticism and fiction theory, and is interested in theoretical approaches to the representation of forest and rural areas in Latin American fiction.

Marvin Tate is a visual artist, author, educator, front man and songwriter. He has performed widely, including on National Public Radio's This American Life, Def Jam Poetry, The Heartlands in San Francisco, and the Chicago Blues Festival. He has collaborated with former Wilco member, LeRoy Bach, and singers Tim Kinsella and Angel Olsen for a collection of songs called "Tim Kinsella sings the songs of Marvin Tate with LeRoy Bach and Angel Olsen" on Joyful Noise Records (2013).

He lives in Chicago where he is Assistant Professor of English and Director of the MFA program in creative writing at Roosevelt University.

Juan Manuel Torreblanca is a Mexican musician. He was the lead singer and pianist for the band TORREBLANCA. They released two albums, Bella época (2011) and El Polvo en la Luz (2014), along with the EP Defensa in 2010.
Vu Tran was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1975 and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His critically acclaimed debut novel, Dragonfish, was published in 2015. He teaches at the University of Chicago.

Selina Trepp combines installation, drawing, painting, and sculpture to create intricate setups for photos and videos. In addition to the studio-based work, Selina is active in the experimental music scene. In this context she sings and plays the videolah to create projected animations in real-time as visual music.

He co-edited The Latino/a Midwest Reader (University of Illinois Press, 2017), a collection of scholarly essays about the Latina/o experience in a changing Midwest.

Julieta Venegas is an American-born Mexican singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and producer, who sings pop-rock in Spanish. She grew up in Tijuana and began studying music at age eight. Venegas plays several instruments including acoustic guitar, accordion, and keyboard. She has won six Latin Grammys and one Grammy Award among other awards.
Stalina Emmanuelle Villarreal is a Mexican and Chicana poet, and a translator. She translated Sor Juana de la Cruz’s Enigmas in 2015. Her work appears in Papeles de Manscupia, among many others. Her visual poetry was exhibited at University of Houston’s Blaffer Art Museum in Spring 2014.

Juan Villoro is Mexico’s most prolific, prize-winning author, playwright, journalist, and screenwriter. His books have been translated into multiple languages. Several of his books have appeared in English, including his celebrated essay collection on soccer God Is Round (Restless, 2016). Villoro lives in Mexico City and is a visiting lecturer at Yale and Princeton universities. His most recent work to be translated into English is The Wild Book (Restless, 2017).

Aura Xilonen is a novelist and filmmaker from Puebla, Mexico. She was born in Mexico City and spent her childhood in Germany. The Gringo Champion (Europa), her first novel, which she completed at the age of 19, was the winner of the 2015 Premio Mauricio Achar.
