Karen Villeda

Karen Villeda (Tlaxcala, 1985). She has published seven poetry collections, four books of essays, and three children's books. Her work has been recognized with more than fifteen awards for poetry, essay, and narrative, including the 2018 Gilberto Owen National Literature Prize. Her literary creations have been translated into various languages such as German, Arabic, French, Greek, English, and Portuguese. Her book Dodo (Fondo Editorial Tierra Adentro, 2013) is part of the US Library of Congress’ audio collection project within the Hispanic Literature Archive, one of the few Mexican poetry collections included in this project. In 2015, she participated in the University of Iowa's International Writing Program. In 2018, she was Writer-in-Residence at the Vermont Studio Center, and, in 2022, she won the Página Dorada residency for Mexican women writers under 40 at Under the Volcano. She has held grants from several remarkable institutions such as the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Open Society Foundations, Ragdale Foundation, Central European University, the National Fund for Culture and the Arts, and the System of Support for Creation and Cultural Projects. In her project POETronicA, she establishes a dialogue between literature and multimedia.

Su‌ ‌obra‌ ‌ha‌ ‌sido‌ ‌reconocida‌ ‌con‌ ‌más‌ ‌de‌ ‌quince‌ ‌premios‌ de‌ ‌poesía,‌ ‌ensayo‌ ‌y‌ ‌narrativa‌, como el Premio Nacional de Literatura “Gilberto Owen” 2018. Sus‌ ‌creaciones‌ ‌literarias‌ ‌han‌ ‌sido‌ ‌traducidas‌ ‌a‌ ‌diversos‌ ‌idiomas‌ ‌como‌ ‌alemán,‌ ‌árabe,‌ ‌francés,‌ ‌griego,‌ ‌inglés‌ ‌y‌ ‌portugués. ‌Su libro Dodo (Fondo Editorial Tierra Adentro, 2013) forma parte de la colección Archivo de Literatura Hispánica en Audio y ella es una de las pocas poetas mexicanas que forman parte de este proyecto por parte de la Biblioteca del Congreso de Estados Unidos. En‌ ‌2015‌ ‌participó‌ ‌en‌ ‌el‌ ‌Programa‌ ‌Internacional‌ ‌de‌ ‌Escritura‌ ‌de‌ ‌la‌ ‌Universidad‌ ‌de‌ ‌Iowa‌; en‌ ‌2018‌ ‌fue‌ ‌Escritora‌ ‌Residente‌ ‌del‌ ‌Vermont‌ ‌Studio‌ ‌Center y en 2022 fue la ganadora de la residencia Página Dorada para escritoras mexicanas menores de 40 años en Under the Volcano.‌ ‌Ha sido becaria de la Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Open Society Foundations, la Ragdale Foundation, la Central European University, ‌el‌ ‌Fondo‌ ‌Nacional‌ ‌para‌ ‌la‌ ‌Cultura‌ ‌y‌ ‌las‌ ‌Artes, y el Sistema de Apoyos a la Creación y Proyectos Culturales. En su proyecto POETronicA dialoga con literatura y multimedia.
