Join us in a panel discussion exploring how the use of creative methodologies relate to experiencing a more authentic self and to relationship building across differences. Such
methods require multi-modal technologies that are attuned to complex “world sense” systems of knowing—visual, as well as aural, linguistic, spatial, and gestural.
Moderated by Tiffeny Jiménez
Mexican artists Aura Arreola and Héctor Jiménez Castillo will discuss their practices and work in the context of their respective use of multi-modalities.
“Multi-modalities” refers to ways we communicate via diverse mediums that influence how we express ourselves and our need to be heard. As part of the development of an action scholarship agenda, it has the potential to shape public consciousness. Toward this end, we seek ways of supporting knowledge of authentic self so that we can more clearly understand who we are in ways that allows historical wisdom to shape how we build for the future. We hope to learn from the artists answers to several questions: What kinds of modes are used in your work? How did the use of such modes relate to your exploration of authentic self and what does “authentic self” mean to you? How does communicating using multiple modes help in building relationships across
differences?
