The Lit & Luz Festival Celebrates 10 Years of International Exchange and Collaboration!

 CHICAGO—October 13-21, MAKE Literary Productions’s Lit & Luz Festival of Language, Literature, and Art celebrates ten years of making space for essential dialogues between residents of Mexico and the United States through curated artist collaborations and a week-long series of free programming in Spanish and English.

The 2023-24 festival is themed “TEN”—a celebration of the festival’s tenth anniversary and all things commemorative. The theme also alludes to the Spanish meaning of the “ten,” and considers what it is to have—and have not.

 This one-of-a-kind cultural festival runs October 13-October 21 with over a dozen bilingual events taking place at venues throughout Chicago, as well as online.

 In partnership with Chicago Art Department, the festival kicks off October 13th with an exhibition featuring new work from past and present Collaboration Cohort participants curated by Esteban King (Mexico City) and Nicky Ni (Chicago). October 14th, the legendary author Ana Castillo delivers our keynote address in partnership with UIC’s Center for Latinx Literature of the Americas.

 The biggest news is that the festival’s signature event, The Live Magazine Show, returns to the Museum of Contemporary Art theater on Saturday, October 21st.

 At this ticketed program, six pairs of Mexico- and Chicago-based participants—the Collaboration Cohort—debut multimedia collaborative pieces they have been working on in the prior months.

 At its heart, Lit & Luz is a cultural exchange between writers, visual artists, and musicians from Mexico and United States. With the festival taking place first in Chicago, then Mexico City, it is a conversation between two countries.

Past participants include luminaries such as Krista Franklin, Cristina Rivera Garza, Valeria Luiselli, José Olivarez, Jac Jemc, and Erika L. Sánchez.

CHICAGO—Octubre 13-21, El Lit & Luz, Festival de Lengua, Literatura y Arte, de MAKE Literary Productions, celebra diez años de crear un espacio de diálogos esenciales entre lxs residentes de México y Estados Unidos a través de colaboraciones artísticas curadas y una semana de programación de eventos gratuitos en inglés y español.

El festival de 2023-24 lleva como tema “TEN”, una celebración del décimo aniversario del festival y toda su conmemoración. El tema también alude al significado en español de “ten”, y considera lo que es tener y no tener.

Este festival cultural, único en su tipo, se llevará a cabo del 13 al 21 de Octubre con más de una docena de eventos bilingües que tienen lugar en distintos venues de Chicago, así como eventos en línea.

En asociación con el Chicago Art Department, el festival inicia el 13 de Octubre con una exposición que presenta obras nuevas de participantes pasados y presentes del Grupo de Colaboración, curada por Esteban King (Ciudad de México) y Nicky Ni (Chicago). El 14 de Octubre, la legendaria escritora Ana Castillo pronunciará nuestro Discurso de apertura, en asociación con el Center for Latinx Literature of the Americas de la UIC.

La mayor noticia es que el evento más representativo del festival, El Live Magazine Show, regresa al auditorio del Museum of Contemporary Art el sábado 21 de Octubre.

En este evento con boleto, seis pares de participantes radicados en México y Chicago, el Grupo de Colaboración, estrenan piezas multimedia colaborativas que han estado trabajando en los meses previos.
